Helpful Hints for Purchasing Wedding Invitations
Your wedding invitations can set the tone of the wedding. The invitation is responsible for making the first impression to your guests. It may convey a message of formality and tradition, as well as expressing your own style.  Here are a few helpful hints to remember:

  • Invitations and announcements should be purchased six (6) months prior to the wedding.  Invitations should be mailed to guests 6-8 weeks before your wedding and announcements should be sent on your special day.
  • All of our sample books contain actual invitations as samples. While invitation catalogs are available, they have access to special lighting and props that can make an ugly invitation appear beautiful!  And, with our sample books, you can touch the invitation to ensure it's a quality product.
  • Please read instructions for ordering invitations carefully. There are many details that can be overlooked that you may be charged for later, such as ink and extra lines.

  • Make sure you spell everything out, including all names, and the wedding date, time, and place. The only abbreviation that is considered proper is Mr., Mrs., Ms., Miss, or Jr.
  • Preparation is important. Before ordering invitations, know the time and location of the ceremony and reception. Count the number of invitations that you'll need, and find out the street addresses and proper names of guests before ordering so that you can begin addressing them immediately upon receipt.
  • Send a wallet-sized engagement photo with your invitations, or our new photo invitations.
  • Be sure to order enough invitations.  You'll need one invitation for every married couple, each single person with their guest (whether you invite their guests is totally up to you), and children over age 16. Don't forget to send invitations to your wedding party attendants.  A good rule of thumb is to order at least 25 extra invitations at the time you place your initial order - not only do you have enough invitations to accommodate unanticipated guests and errors, it's more cost effective.
  • Purchase thank you notes with your invitation order. This will enable you to keep up with gifts you receive prior to the wedding and also be available when you return from your honeymoon (or write them on the plane!)  Also, consider photo thank you's. Your guests will appreciate a photo keepsake of the couple on their wedding day.
  • Don't forget to purchase personalized items such as napkins, candy boxes, favors, and other specialty items. You might find just the special touch your looking for to personalize your celebration.
  • Be sure to send an invitation to the President of the USA at the White House. You may receive a nice reply from the First Family. Also, it is traditional for Catholic couples to send an invitation to the Pope at the Vatican in Rome, Italy.
  • Lastly, don't forget to have your invitation framed after the wedding. It makes a beautiful keepsake and may be included with your preserved bouquet.
